13076' for the Mediterranean

I have been thinking about the Mediterranean for a long now; what could better describe such warmth rather than colors? The first thing that comes in mind is a big round blue, except I was looking for something different: a bond between Mediterranean roots and boundaries, a symbol. I researched every country connected to it and I blended their flags; twenty-three noble emblems that identify these countries became indistinct in a geometric composition with a red predominance. The Mediterranean flag was first designed digitally by using the exact percentage of color contained in every flag and was later embroidered by hand on fabric. 

The artwork is named after the collective value of the minutes used for its’ realization, ‘’ 13076 minutes for the Mediterranean.’’

È da tanto che penso al Mediterraneo e a cosa potrebbe descrivere meglio il suo calore. La prima cosa che viene in mente pensandoci è un grande blu rotondo. Cercavo qualcosa che andasse oltre, un simbolo; un legame cromatico forte che desse le stesse radici e che confinasse con tutti i paesi che si affacciano ad esso. Ho cercato i paesi geograficamente collocati a quest’area e ho amalgamato le loro bandiere; i ventitré emblemi di identificazione di ogni paese per eccellenza e le ho fatte convivere in un paesaggio geometrico nel quale predomina il rosso. La bandiera del mediterraneo è stata inizialmente disegnata digitalmente rispettando le percentuali di colore contenente in ogni bandiera e in seguito è stata ricamata a mano su tessuto. 

L’opera prende il suo nome dai minuti spesi per la sua realizzazione, ‘’ 13076 Minutes For The Mediterranean.’’
