My Naegleria Fowleri 2171'

My Naegleria Fowleri 2171’  is an interactive sonorous sculpture made of embroidered conductive thread. It takes its name from the pathogenic species of the genus Naegleria, known as ‘the brain-eating’ amoeba, lethal for the human organism. Since embroidery is one of the most ancient arts often associated with an intimate dimension of time-passing, the perception of which nowadays due to technology has changed, we decided to merge tradition and technological development. Sound is introduced to the embroidery by touch, reactivating the time captured on the textile in the past, in the present. The spectator becomes performer, active part of the work through his or her own hand and enables an actual dimension, in addition to what already had been.

My Naegleria Fowleri 2171’ è una scultura interattiva sonora realizzata con il filo conduttivo ricamato. Prende il suo nome dall’omonima specie di batteri patogeni Naegleria, conosciuti anche come le amebe ‘mangiacervello’, letali per l’organismo umano. Siccome il ricamo è un’arte antica spesso associata ad una dimensione intima del passare del tempo, la percezione della quale oggi grazie all’influenza tecnologica è cambiata, abbiamo deciso di mettere insieme tradizione e sviluppo tecnologico. Il suono viene introdotto al ricamo tramite il tatto, riattivando il tempo cattura sul tessuto nel passato, nel presente. Lo spettatore diventa performer, parte attiva del lavoro con la sua mano e permette all’opera di avere una dimensione attuale, oltre a ciò che era stato fino a quel momento.
