My Naegleria Fowleri 2171’ is an interactive sonorous sculpture made of embroidered conductive thread. It takes its name from the pathogenic species of the genus Naegleria, known as ‘the brain-eating’ amoeba, lethal for the human organism. Since embroidery is one of the most ancient arts, often associated with an intimate dimension of time-passing, the perception of which nowadays due to technology has changed, we decided to merge tradition and technological development. Sound is incorporated into the embroidery and can be activated through touch. The spectator is invited to touch the piece and to become a performer, an active part of the work. By enabling the sound dimension, the time captured on the textile in the past is reactivated in the present.
