#craftingcyprus: Needlework

MAY 2022

The Cyprus Handicraft Service proudly presents a series of short films under the general title #craftingcyprus written and directed by Filep Motwary, that focus on three genres of local crafting techniques and their evolution: Embroidery, Ceramics & Weaving.

The films tell the story of intangible cultural heritage and contemporary craftsmanship as experienced by Cypriot artisans and artists. Aiming to encourage artisans to safeguard and continue to produce craft, Motwary touches on the vitality of mentorship, synergy, vision, and the importance of passing one’s skills onto others. This is only the beginning of a long-term project that aims to expose traditional craftsmanship as perhaps the most tangible manifestation of intangible cultural heritage and to register and establish Internationally the beauty of Cypriot Handicraft techniques and their creators.
