Anassa

Craftland is a project initiated by Thanos Hotels and Resorts, Anassa and the Cyprus Handicraft Service, hosted at the Anassa Hotel in Cyprus between June 24 and October 9, 2022. 

Developed and curated by Christos Kyriakides, Craftland evolved into a multifaceted project aiming to empower handicraft arts and techniques, by exploring possible ways of preserving these delicate and time-consuming creative processes as we move into the future. It consists of a contemporary art exhibition, performances, workshops and a shop operating at the hotel premises. 

The Craftland exhibition, emerges as a response to the following set of questions: Can contemporary art have a role in expanding our knowledge and understanding of traditional materials and techniques? Will the craft maintain its sensibilities in the digital era? What are the bytes of this evolving database of practices made of, and which drive can safe-keep their futurity? The exhibition showcases artworks by Cypriot contemporary artists and artisans of different generations, whose practices involve methods, techniques, and modes of thinking relating to handicraft traditions. The exhibition, taking the form of subtle interventions throughout the hotel’s indoor and outdoor common areas, invites the visitor to experience a selection of dynamic and refined applications of traditional handicrafts in contemporary art.

Craftland – the shop carries a curated selection of limited edition items commissioned and produced especially for the project. More than thirty local artisans and artists have designed and created objects, using a wide range of traditional crafts, such as embroidery, weaving, textiles, leatherwork, metallurgy, gold and silversmithing, basketry, woodwork, glass, and ceramics.

Il progetto Craftland è un'iniziativa del gruppo Thanos Hotels and Resorts, Anassa e del Cyprus Handicraft Service. La mostra si è tenuta all'hotel Anassa a Cipro dal 24 Giugno al 9 October, 2022. 

A cura di Christos Kyriakides, Craftland si è evoluto in un progetto poliedrico che mira a rafforzare le arti e le tecniche artigianali, esplorando possibili modi per preservare questi processi creativi delicati e che richiedono tempo, mentre ci muoviamo verso il futuro. Il progetto consiste in una mostra d'arte contemporanea, spettacoli, workshop e un negozio creato per l'occasione all'interno dell'hotel.

La mostra Craftland nasce come risposta alla seguente serie di domande: l'arte contemporanea può avere un ruolo nell'espandere la nostra conoscenza e comprensione dei materiali e delle tecniche tradizionali? L'artigianato manterrà la sua sensibilità nell'era digitale? Di cosa sono fatti i byte di questo database di evoluzione di pratiche e quale spinta può salvaguardare il loro futuro? L'esposizione mette in mostra opere di artisti e artigiani contemporanei ciprioti di diverse generazioni, le cui pratiche implicano metodi, tecniche e modi di pensare relativi alle tradizioni artigianali. La mostra, che prende la forma di sottili interventi nelle aree comuni interne ed esterne dell'hotel, invita il visitatore ad avere l'esperienza di una selezione di applicazioni dinamiche e raffinate dell'artigianato tradizionale nell'arte contemporanea.

Craftland – il negozio offre una selezione curata di articoli di edizione limitata commissionati e prodotti appositamente per il progetto. Più di trenta artigiani e artisti locali hanno progettato e creato oggetti, utilizzando una vasta gamma di mestieri tradizionali, come ricamo, tessitura, tessuti, pelletteria, metallurgia, oreficeria e argenteria, vimini, lavorazione del legno, vetro e ceramica.
